The original painting depicts a kappa which is a mythical and mischievous water creature. Kappas are known to drown people and steal their souls (shirokodama) which is extracted from their anuses. Shirokodama's are depicted as hojus, a buddhist symbol of goodluck. The cats and kittens in the painting are wearing Hoju hats. This is a high quality reproduction of the original painting, printed on Archival Hot Press Bright watercolor paper, similar to the what the original was painted on.
